Our project at North Berwick will see the demolition of the existing garages and annex belonging to a detached property.
The proposed single storey dwelling will sit largely within the massing of the existing buildings and will be arranged around a new private courtyard.
This new central courtyard will reintroduce soft landscaping to replace the current hard surfaces and will be a space to which all principal rooms will respond.
To the north edge of the site will be the main living space, with large glazed winbdows facing south to the courtyard. The eastern edge will contain the kitchen and dining areas, facing west to catch afternoon and evening sun. Rooflights within this space will bring morning light deep into the plan.
Private bedroom spaces face south at the road edge with the master bedroom suite facing north into the courtyard.
Working within the existing massing, and respectfully referencing existing brickwork for our choice of materials will allow the building to sit discretely and politely within its context.
